You were made for this
From the very beginning, God said it’s not good for a person to be alone. We’re wired for community — to know and be known, to carry each other’s burdens and let ours be carried. Isolation isn’t just lonely; it’s a place where discouragement grows loud and truth gets quiet. Community is where faith actually gets lived out.
The Christian life was designed to be a ‘we,’ not just a ‘me.’
“Carry each other’s burdens.”Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
It won’t happen by accident
As an adult, deep community has to be built on purpose — the automatic friendships of school are gone. That means joining a small group, saying yes to invitations, hosting even when your place isn’t perfect, and showing up consistently. Depth grows from repetition and presence, not one great hangout.
Let people carry your burdens too
“Carry each other’s burdens” cuts both ways — and most of us are far better at helping than at being helped. Real community requires the humility to let people in on your struggles, not just your highlight reel. Being known is worth the risk of being vulnerable.
Try this week
- Join a small group or serve team and commit to showing up.
- Host something simple — don’t wait for the perfect setup.
- Say yes to invitations even when it’s easier to stay in.
- Let someone carry one of your burdens this month.
Questions to sit with
- Am I building community on purpose or drifting into isolation?
- Do I let people in, or only show my highlights?
- Where could I show up more consistently?
Lord, you made me for community, not isolation. Give me courage to show up, humility to be known, and a heart to carry others’ burdens — and to let mine be carried. Amen.
